Make Your Own Shirt - Wear Them Tomorrow!

This palette is very personal to me, in light of the events in Arkansas this week, I felt something needed to be said, to be done.  I have many friends who are homosexual, who are beautiful, who are brave, who are AMAZING. My heart breaks for the pressures & pain happening all over the world and in my very own state. While this is in direct support of the Gay Lesbian Bi & Trans-gender Community, this is also in complete support of the community of the world. Hate & discrimination only destroy what is beautiful about the world we have been given to take care of, it destroys the people who are and will be placed in our lives to LOVE.

For anyone who has ever been bullied for any reason— WE LOVE YOU.

On Friday (tomorrow) – October 29th, 2010 – a group of Arkansans will be wearing purple shirts with the words “We Love You” painted across the front. We encourage anyone to participate to spread awareness, support & love for their neighbors.  Be creative, be passionate, be LOVING. We have created a Hashtag for Twitter for anyone who would like to share their support– feel free to post a picture of your shirt at #weloveyou2010 – and also share on your Facebook Profile.

If you aren’t familiar with this gorgeous place, the first English colony was settled here, though the inhabitants disappeared mysteriously leaving archeologists and historians stumped. The beaches were in habited with native Americans, many towns named after their chiefs. The Graveyard of the Atlantic rests just off the shores of Cape Hatteras and is a resting place for several military vessels — a scuba diver’s dream! Wilbur & Orville Wright flew the first airplane on the dunes of Kitty Hawk, which is now technically in Kill Devil Hills. Its also where I learned how to ride a bike, drive a car, and learned how to boogie board along the breaking waves.

Living in Arkansas (how I got here is a long story) only makes me home sick for the salty air and constant tune of seagulls. And one color palette cannot capture all of the gorgeous colors found on these islands — so do not be surprised if you hear more about the OBX in future posts! Now don’t get me wrong, The Natural State is a great place to live, and truly beautiful in so many ways. You will see tons of palettes inspired by the gorgeous Arkansas State Parks & wildlife in the near future. But when you’re raised with the waves, you never lose the sense of serenity & longing for the sea.

This palette is inspired by my favorite painting by Salvador Dali.  This gorgeous painting, Figure at a Window, was created in 1925 using oil on canvas. After Dali’s mother passed away he and his sister, Ana Maria (the model), became extremely close. Ana Maria was the only female model Dali used until Gala replaced her in 1929. The painting does not allow us to see the girl’s face but focuses us on what the girl is looking to. In this painting, the view is the bay of Cadaques, a Spanish seaside notorious for summer getaways.

This painting is rather unique to Salvador Dali’s style as the painting leaves you with a sense of peace and tranquility not often found in his loud & tense modern works.

This painting resonates with the constant longing I have to be near the ocean. I was raised on the coast of North Carolina and there is nothing like staring out into the massive waves pondering about the future and the past. Not only is the painting itself a depiction of how I see myself in the world, the history behind the painting is beautiful. The knowledge of this painting being one of his most peaceful pieces shows the soft intensity of Salvador Dali as an artist. The painting, in my opinion, should be viewed with a more contemporary piece of art – a song by Los Campesinos! called The Sea Is A Good Place To Think About The Future.

This palette was inspired by my wedding bouquet held on April 25th, 2009.  The deep purple and greens are my favorite colors, and this was the very first palette of mine created on colourlovers.com.  Feel free to check out more of my palettes & create your own!

April 25th, 2009 was the first day of the rest of my life. I married Jordan Siler, an amazing guy with a passion for music & history. We were married in his parent’s backyard on a gorgeous day in Forrest City, Arkansas. I was a barefoot bride with a designer dress. Our wedding was centered around good friends, family and our own playlist. Among the artists played throughout the day — Bright Eyes, Ben Harper, Ben Kweller, Michael Jackson, Dave Barnes, John Lennon, Rachael Yamagata, Coldplay and Priscilla Ahn.

Our flowers were specially designed by Ron Riddell who took full creative control, and did an amazing job! This palette was inspired by my bouquet which was wrapped by Ron himself just hours before my wedding! I spent one hour sharing my style, colors, and love for nature.  From that hour he captured my personality & style like a seasoned pro.

We danced to ‘The Luckiest’ by Ben Folds, and spent our honeymoon road-tripping across the east coast!
